Reason #862 for staying faithful

Thinking about cheating on your spouse you Michigander you? Better think twice.

"In a ruling sure to make philandering spouses squirm, Michigan's second-highest court says that anyone involved in an extramarital fling can be prosecuted for first-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony punishable by up to life in prison."

What do you think about this new ruling?

(Read the rest of the story here.)

* I would like to point out that people should surely think more than twice (or thrice, etc.) before cheating on their loved ones. I definitely do not advocate adultery. You take vows for a reason.

I'm all for it. There's another law being debated that would make it illegal for a man who is living with a woman pregnant with his child to move out... that I think restricts personal autonomy a little too much, because you don't have to be married for the law to apply. And I think "Ooops I got someone pregant" is something you have less control over than "Ooops I consciously took marriage vows and pledged eternal devotion to someone."

What I think is sad is that adultery seems to be becoming part of pop culture, there are so many movies out there with cheating spouses that I think people feel justified in doing so... the "everyone else is doing it" mentality. People need to take responsibility for their own actions. Everyone has a scapegoat like, "my husband doesn't show me enough affection, my wife got fat, etc." Whatever happened to working out problems? Its heartbreaking really.

OK, I'll get off my soapbox now.
