Like I know everything

I passed an undergraduate student on my way to a meeting today and overheard her saying, "I just can't WAIT to be done with school."

Now, I know that I probably said the EXACT same thing at the EXACT same point in my life so I have very little room to talk. However, everything in me wanted to stop her and say "Slow down. Enjoy it."

Thankfully, I quickly remembered all the people who used to tell me to "just enjoy it" and thought it best to keep my mouth shut.

Seriously, though, how amazing was college?

* The guy in the above pic seems to be in a hurry. Hence the connection to this post. Sorry. That's the best I could do on this one.

Are you serious?!

Well my friends. This blogger is indeed one happy camper today.

Why you ask? My University has called a snow day.

I'm in disbelief and currently thanking my lucky stars.

(It's amazing how exhilarated, awake and alive I feel at 6:45 a.m. when I know I don't have to go to work - or class! Yay!!!)

Group projects suck

That's it. That's all I have to say about that.

Bad work ethic?

I was cleaning out my old files earlier this morning when I ran across a folder with pay stubs from all the jobs I worked at from 1999-2003. I must say, I don't remember working 12 jobs in four years! What a horrible employee! Can you say A.D.D.?

In case you don't believe me, here's a brief (and somewhat embarassing) rundown. I think they're in the proper order...

Employer: Thomas Edison Inn
Duration: 8 months (?)
Title: Hostess/Server

Employer: Port Huron Hospital
Duration: About 4 months
Title: Copy Queen

Employer: Western Herald
Duration: 2 years (with a 4 month break that allowed for the next three positions)
Title: Copy Editor

Employer: Meijer
Duration: 3 months
Title: Beauty section stockgirl

Employer: Kalamazoo County Chamber of Commerce
Duration: 4 months
Title: Marketing Intern

Employer: International Gilmore Keyboard Festival
Duration: 3 months
Title: PR Intern

Employer: CGI Communications
Duration: 2 weeks
Title: Professional map seller

Employer: Voyageur Restaurant
Duration: 3 months
Title: Server

Employer: Red Lobster
Duration: 6 months max
Title: Bartender

Employer: Reno's East (at MSU)
Duration: 1 month
Title: Server/Beer Bitch

Employer: Fore Lakes Golf Club
Duration: 4 months
Title: Server/Bartender

Employer: St. Clair County Community College
Duration: 2 stints equaling about a year
Title: Admin. Asst. in President's Office

... Professional jobs finally began at this point... Woohoo!

I can't believe I still had pay stubs on file for some of these. Amazing.

Were you a bit like me during your formative college years? Did you tend to job hop?

Loans for life

I found this quite interesting:

Yahoo.com - The world’s most expensive universities are not haute institutions in the Swiss Alps or on the balmy shores of the Persian Gulf. Nor are they the Ivy League citadels of America’s elite like Harvard or Princeton, or ancient halls of learning like Cambridge or Oxford in the United Kingdom.

No, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education, the most expensive four-year university in the U.S. (and most likely the world) is Washington, D.C.’s George Washington University, with a price tag of $39,240 in 2007-2008. Rounding out the top five: Ohio’s Kenyon College ($38,140), Bucknell University in Pennsylvania ($38,134) and Vassar College ($38,115) and Sarah Lawrence College ($38,090), both in New York. All private, all selective and all extremely pricey--and that’s before room, board and books are factored in.

Another semester begins...

I can't say I'm all that excited to start classes again tomorrow. I think I'd rather come home from work and do my own thing. Oh well. Just have to keep telling myself it'll all be over soon enough...

On the agenda this semester? Public Relations Campaigns and Organizational Communications.

I know you're all jealous. It's ok.

One down...

... And one to go.

Please excuse the lack of blogging. My tough exam is this evening.

I expect it will be directly followed by a few glasses of wine, rendering me completely and utterly useless for a good day or two.

Good news (for me!)

I just found out that ALL three of my MSU master's courses will transfer to WSU.

Can I get a woohoo?!

I will graduate with my master's degree in Dec. 2008! Only one year from now!

I plan to celebrate in the same fashion as the character above.

Procrastination

OK. This image may be a bit exaggerated. But I did feel as though I had a ton of weight on my shoulders this weekend. I don't know how many times I cursed myself out for not starting that paper until the weekend before the due date.

20 pages later and I'm spent. Not my proudest masterpiece, but it'll have to do at this point. I feel lighter already.
Can't wait until finals are done!

T-minus 5 Days

My lit review is due in five days.

I have 35 sources to review and summarize into a paper.

I'm starting to worry a wee bit as I'm lacking focus.

Back to School

Heading back to class tomorrow evening.

On the schedule this semester:

- Micro-Organizational Communication
- Advanced Desktop Publishing (thank goodness for my Mac mini!)

I'm actually quite excited for both at the moment.

(We'll see how long the excitement lasts!)
